How to: Retwist / Palmroll
Hey Family!! This is how you can maintain your locs at home. In this video you will see what tools/products I use and the direction to retwist on yourself. Since it is an at home video my son is there as well lol!
:::▶︎❤︎ TOOLS AND PRODUCTS USED ❤︎◀︎:::
- Nourishing Hair Dew by Key Vital Roots (www.keyvitalroots.com)
- Mighty 13 Scalp Treatment by Key Vital Roots
- Alligator Clips
- Double Prong Clips
- MyGel by Joie Naturals (or aloe base/flaxseed based homemade gel)
:::▶︎❤︎ HOW TO RETWIST ❤︎◀︎:::
- Spray scalp and hair while separating the locs
- Oil scalp and hair
- Starting on the 1st row; clip the rest of the locs away with the alligator clips
- Apply Gel to the roots of the row (if using the myGel a tiny bit {tip of the fingernail size will work)
- Begin with 1 loc: gather the loose hair and wrap them around the length of the loc (clockwise; to the right) and smooth the gel into the loc to prevent buildup.
- Palmroll / Retwist: place the loc between both hands (with pressure) roll to the right (clockwise direction) until root tighten but does NOT coil onto itself.
- Clip the loc away and move to the next loc...
{**Please note** for starter locs: coils or two strand twists this works for you as well. In the beginning you will find more "fuzz" around your base/twists, the wrapping will help train those hairs to stay in place over time}
:::▶︎❤︎ HOW OFTEN SHOULD I RETWIST? ❤︎◀︎:::
- every 4-5 weeks (starter/baby locs - 4 weeks)
- shampoo every 2-3 weeks (check out my how-to shampoo video)
:::▶︎❤︎ OTHER TIPS AND INFO ❤︎◀︎:::
- DO NOT retwist every 2 weeks. This will cause stress on your roots/follicle and we do not want anything to bring on breakage. Every 4 week is best.
- Please drink your water and eat dark green leafy vegetables. This will help with internal hydration and vitamin/mineral strength.
Thank you for watching,
Enjoy!!
